Stravinsky's fountain is located on the square between the Pompidou Center and the church of Saint Merri. It is an avant-garde composition consisting of 16 colorful, plastic sculptures presenting various compositions of the composer. They are placed in a rectangular water tank measuring 36 by 16 meters.
Igor Strawiński, the avant-garde Russian composer lived in Paris during the interwar period. In the early 1980s, the Square next to the Faculty of Music and Acoustics at Pompidou Center was named after him. In 1982, the construction of the fountain in honor of the composer was given to Jean Tinguely and his partner Niki de Saint Phalle.
They placed 16 plastic sculptures with fanciful shapes in a rectangular water pool. They spray water in an uncoordinated and capricious way. The sculptures are illustrations of Stravinsky's musical works and refer to his modern, sometimes looking "unstructured" music.
