Saint-Louis-en-l'Île Catholic Church

Local name: Église catholique Saint-Louis-en-l'Île

Saint Louis Church is the only temple on Saint Louis Island in the center of Paris. It is a small, Baroque building with a neo-Gothic, slender tower and a characteristic metal clock above the entrance. The interior is covered with tapestries depicting scenes from the Holy Bible.

The church was built in the 17th century. During the French Revolution it was severely damaged. After its completion, the interior was reconstructed and the facade changed, giving it neo-Gothic features. The tower above the entrance finished with a soaring spire comes from this period. The facade of the church is included in the building string of Saint Louis Island. From the Seine, its circular presbytery is visible.

The interior of the church is in the Baroque style. Decorative fabrics with biblical scenes were hung on the walls. Attention is paid to monumental organs. Saint Louis's Church was a parish for many famous people who lived on the Island. Maria Skłodowska-Curie and French President Georges Pompidou, among others, attended here.
