St. Louis Island

Local name: Île Saint-Louis

Saint Louis Island is located on the Seine. The bridge connects it with both banks of the river and with the neighboring La Cite. The island is densely built-up, mainly with tenement houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Polish Library has its seat here.

The island of Saint Louis is a place favored by artists, politicians and scientists. In the past, Maria Skłodowska-Curie, George Pompidou and Paul Cezanne, among others, had their apartments here. To this day, this place is considered one of the most exclusive addresses in Paris.

Among the buildings, you can see a small church of St. Louis and a square with a statue of Theseus. There is also the building of the Hotel Lambert, which was the seat of Polish emigration after the November Uprising. The Adam Mickiewicz Museum also operates in the Polish Library, established in 1838.
