This is the station of one of the main stations in Paris. The facility dates back to 1850 and is not only a departure point for trains, but also a tourist attraction, mainly due to its rich history and architecture. The station itself was officially opened by Napoleon III.
The building is decorated with sculptures presenting the two most important cities served by Gare de l'Est: Strasbourg and Verdun by Phillippe Renaire and Vareeme. The interior of the station was decorated with a painting by Albert Hetler showing the departure of soldiers from the station to the front - currently it is in the Railway Museum in Mikiza.
The property was designed by Francis-Alexandre Daugnesney. In 1883, the first of the famous Orient Express trains (Paris - Constantinople) departed from here. Due to its location, the station was the place of departure for soldiers during World War I and II.
