Charles de Gaulle Bridge

Local name: Pont Charles de Gaulle

The Charles de Gaulle Bridge is a modern bridge connecting the Austerlitz and Lyon stations. It is a concrete structure based on two pillars, massive and very simple.

The decision to build a new bridge between the National Library Building and the Bercy district was made in 1986. It was associated with the need to improve car traffic in the center of Paris. The winning design was proposed by Roman Krasiński and Louis Arethche. It was chosen because it did not interfere with the existing buildings in the area and the arrangement of adjacent bridges.

It is a crossing with a length of almost 208 meters. It is made of concrete. It has simple shapes and barriers with no clearances. Stylistically it fits into the modern look of the districts it connects.
