The water tower built in 1678 on the order of Prince de Condé, cousin of King Louis XIV, was erected to supply the fountains. The machine installed in it was supposed to generate pressure capable of raising a water column to a height of 25 m in the magnificent gardens of the nearby Chantilly Palace.
