Chaudanne Fort

Eighteenth-century fort built in the suburbs of Besançon, on a hill from which one could observe the area. Initially, it was a single tower, which over time was encapsulated with fort buildings. Currently, the building is open to the public as an excellent viewpoint on the surrounding area. A theater has been operating in the rooms of the fort since 1995, and in its area stands a monument commemorating the capture of fortifications by the Americans in 1944.
