The Åland Maritime Museum in Mariehamn in the Aland Islands is one of the world's most important museums for merchant shipping. Its collection also includes the largest fleet of wooden sailing ships in the world.
The Åland Maritime Museum is housed in a two-story building, the shape of which is reminiscent of the bow of a ship stuck into the ground. Permanent exhibitions feature boat models, bottled ships and marine equipment. There is also a collection of maritime art pieces by local artists.
