Allinge, along with neighboring Sandvig, are the main tourist centers of Bornholm. There are many sandy beaches in the area, and cyclists can enjoy perfectly prepared bike paths. Allinge Center has retained its medieval charm and historic buildings.

The vicinity of Allinge was already inhabited in the prehistoric period. The largest collection of rock carvings on the island was discovered here. Madsebakke Helleristninger is a popular walking area where history is brought up close.

The town center is small, with a well-preserved medieval urban layout. There is an intimate square with a town hall built in the 17th century, low, colorful half-timbered houses and the late-medieval Allinge Kirke church rebuilt several times.

One of the highlights of Allinge and the surrounding area is Bornholm's largest castle, Hammershus. Its construction began in the 13th century, and to this day only ruins standing on a hill above a steep cliff have been preserved. A modern museum presenting the history of the fortress was opened in 2018. The stronghold stands on Cape Hammeren, which is a popular excursion destination due to its picturesque scenery.

Until the 19th century, Allinge was primarily a fishing village. To this day, many inhabitants still engage in fishing here. There are numerous fish smokehouses, often connected with small, family-run restaurants and boarding houses. In summer, you can relax on the sandy beaches, and many people also decide to swim in the sea.
