Sanctuary of St John of Nepomuk

Local name: Poutní kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého

Svatý kopeček is a Baroque pilgrimage church in the Gothic style, which is a unique work of art and the most characteristic achievement of the brilliant Czech architect of Italian origin Jan Błażej Santini-Aichl. The construction of the temple goes beyond standard standards and artistic ideas. The intersection of complex spatial structures, the dynamics of building mass, the denial of the whole mass of the wall, all this proves the unique nature of this architecture.

The construction of the church began in 1719 and was associated with the prepared blessing and sanctity of John of Nepomuk, after he found himself in the grave in the Prague cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The main altar on the east side reaches the gallery on the first floor. The sculptures of five angels on the main altar and four evangelists are the work of sculptor Jan Paweł Čechpauer. Place of pilgrimage John of Nepomuk was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
