Postal Museum
Local name: Poštovní muzeum
The Postal Museum shows the history of delivering correspondence in the Czech Republic from the 16th century to the present. At the extensive exhibition you can see postal uniforms, vehicles used for transporting correspondence, mailboxes, telegraphs and reconstruction of the interior of the post office from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The museum's collection documents the history of the post since 1526. Visitors can see how the methods of transmitting correspondence have changed and what other services the mail has provided for centuries. There are post stamps, first stamps, proof of fees and other documents. Maps with marked postal routes, carriages, stagecoaches, postal ambulances and sleighs used by postal workers are presented. The exhibition on the nineteenth and early twentieth century also includes a collection of telegraphs and radiotelegraphs, utensils and typewriters, and safes.
