Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
Local name: Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is part of the Cistercian monastery complex in Vyssi Brod. It is a Gothic building erected on a cross plan. In his arms there are four chapels, including the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a reverent image of Our Lady of Visegrad.
The construction of the church began shortly after the founding of the monastery in the mid-thirteenth century. It lasted about a hundred years. Currently, its equipment is mostly baroque. At first, however, there was a valuable nine-pole altar from the fourteenth century. It was funded by Piotr I from Rozemberk. Currently, one of the most valuable paintings of Czech Gothic is in the monastery of St. Agnieszka in Prague as the property of the National Museum.
In the richly decorated Baroque main altar there is currently a picture of the Assumption of the Mother of God. Next to it are statues of Pope Eugene III derived from the Cistercian order and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the founder of the order. The local organs also have a rich woodcarving setting.
