Vrkoč
Local name: Vrkoč
The Vrkoc Natural Monument is a basalt outcrop located near the Elbe River. The outflow of lava created curved columns forming an inverted fan.
The rock was discovered in the 19th century during the construction of a railway line from Dresden to Prague. During this time, the rocky slope descended to the banks of the Elbe. Subsequent layers were gradually removed to make room for the location of railway tracks. In this way, the main basalt vein and rock formation called Vrkoc were dug out.
Since 1966, the rock has been a monument of nature. In 2007, a metal cross was placed on its top. The rock can be reached via the green tourist trail from Větruše. There is also a road under the rock and a small parking lot.
