St John the Baptist Church

Local name: Kostel Sv. Jana Krtitele

The church of Saint John the Baptist in Teplice was built at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on the site of an earlier temple. It is a three-nave basilica with a massive, square tower decorated with rustication and covered with a baroque helmet. The interior is decorated in late baroque and rococo style.

It is not known exactly when the first church of Saint John in Teplice was built. Certainly the current temple was built in the years 1700-1703 on the foundations of an older building. A few years later a tower was added to it. The call of the church refers to the character of the village because Saint John is considered the patron of healing sources.

The late baroque building consists of three naves In the lateral ones there are graves associated with the Teplice family of Vchynsky and Clary-Aldringen. The interior features three Rococo altars. In the main one there is a picture of the Baptism of Jesus in Jordan, while in the side figures of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Christopher.
