St Nicholas Bell Tower

City Bell Tower Santa Claus is part of the church of Sts. Nicholas on the Little Palace in Prague. It is a building erected in the Baroque style. The height of the bell tower reaches 65 m and its peak leads to 215 degrees. There is a view of the district of Mala Strana, the nearby square and the whole of Prague. The tower has a separate entrance from the square.

Belfry of St. Nicholas was designed and built by the Baroque architect, Kiliána lgnáca Dienzenhofer. The work was completed by his pupil and son-in-law Carlo Lurago adding his own details to the project. The tower was completed in 1752 and officially opened in 1755. Two years later the building was damaged during the siege of Prague by the Prussian troops.

City Bell Tower In addition to her primary function, Nicholas also served as a city observer and alarmist against possible fire hazards or hostile forces. During the communist regime, it was used to monitor movements in nearby embassies of Western countries.
