The Maisel Synagogue is located in the former Jewish city of Prague. It houses the Jewish Museum with a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of Jews living in Bohemia and Moravia. Open to the public are here, among others old documents and religious objects. The Maisel synagogue currently has a neo-Gothic form.
The Maisel Synagogue was built in the years 1590 - 1592 on the initiative of the significant and influential patron of the Jewish community in Prague, Mordechaj Maisel. Emperor Rudolf II issued a special privilege authorizing its construction. Josef Wahl and Juda Goldsmied were the builders of the synagogue.
At the end of the 17th century, the synagogue burned down and was rebuilt in the Baroque style. At the turn of the century, the synagogue was rebuilt again, this time in the neo-Gothic style, giving it a contemporary character. The author of the reconstruction project was Professor Grott. As part of the museum, cultural events are also held here.
