The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the Chain on Little Structure is the temple of the order of the Jaonnites. The church was built as a Romanesque building, it was completed in the Gothic style. The most important elements of the building include the gothic portal, carved pulpit, chapels of St. John of Nepomuk and Saint. John the Baptist and many paintings.
The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the Chain was founded in the 12th century by the Knights of St. John and constituted a fragment of the fortifications of their order. In the next century, an early Gothic presbytery was built. In the fourteenth century, two towers, never completed, with a vestibule connecting them. The temple also has neo-Gothic elements.
In the 17th century the presbytery was rebuilt in the Baroque style. On the main altar there is a painting by Karel Škréta showing the Virgin Mary adored by the knights of the Maltese Order. The Church of Saint Mary under the Chain also houses the tombs of Maltese monks and knights.
