Hałda Ema is located in the suburbs of Ostrava. It is an artificial hill dumped from mining waste 315 m above sea level. It is one of the highest points in the area, and its peak offers a view of the city and its surroundings.
The Hałda was created as a result of the removal of waste from nearby mines. In the 1960s a fire was lit inside. It burns to this day, and from time to time clouds of smoke or steam appear above the cone. The temperature inside the heap is estimated at 1000 degrees Celsius. The surface of the heap has been reclaimed. It is now covered with a forest in which birches predominate. The top is exposed. There is a cross and an information board here. The summit can be reached by three routes that start at the Castle, the Sykory Bridge and the zoo.
