Náměšť nad Oslavou Castle
Local name: Zámek Náměšť nad Oslavou
The Namest na Oslavou castle is a valuable monument of Renaissance architecture in Moravia. It is a rectangular building with an internal courtyard surrounded by arcades. Some of them are currently glazed. Inside, the original interior of the Baroque castle chapel has been preserved. Since 2013, rooms with furniture from the early 20th century and souvenirs of the last castle owners have been made available.
The castle was built in the 13th century. It was then a defensive fortress. In the mid-16th century, the then owner, Count Žerotín, rebuilt it into a Renaissance residence. In 1752 it was purchased by the Haugwitzs family, to which it belonged until the end of World War II. After its completion, for a short time she served as the residence of the president of Czechoslovakia.
Currently the castle is open to the public. In his halls you can see an exhibition of tapestries, glass and porcelain as well as baroque and classical furniture. The castle chapel with a barrel vault has retained its 17th century appearance. There are Baroque altars, benches and a pulpit. In 2013, the descendants of the last owners of the castle donated its furnishings from the early 20th century, handicrafts and family souvenirs as a deposit. We managed to reconstruct several rooms, including the dining room, music room and office as they looked about 100 years ago. There is, among others, a valuable pool table made in Russia at the end of the 19th century.
