Litomerice Castle
Local name: Hrad Litoměřice
The castle in Litomierzyce is a Gothic building whose interiors are now the seat of the Center of Czech Winery. You can see a multimedia exhibition on the history of viticulture and wine production in the Czech Republic, learn the secrets of obtaining a fine drink and take part in a tasting.
The castle was built in the 13th century and was extended by Emperor Charles IV. When it ceased to perform defensive functions, a brewery operated in it, and after its fall it began to fall into ruin. Currently the building has been restored to its Gothic appearance. It is a rectangular, stone building with a high, sloping roof. The interiors have been completely rebuilt and look very modern.
The vaulted cellars contain tasting rooms and a Czech wine store. Galleries were built in the aboveground part of the castle, and the main hall is devoid of ceilings up to the roof sheathing. On specially prepared screens, presentations devoted to Czech winemaking are displayed. Production methods can be compared from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. there is also a conference room and the castle can be rented for various ceremonies.
