The New Synagogue was built in the years 1997–2001. It is a modern building also called the house of reconciliation. It has the shape of a half star of David.
At the end of the 19th century, a neo-Renaissance synagogue was built in Liberec. It was set on fire during Kristallnacht. A municipal science library complex was built in its place. It was also decided to build a synagogue that would commemorate the Liberec Jewish community. Its shape and facing reminiscent of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem are a reference to the most important symbols of Judaism. The synagogue is connected to a library gathering collections regarding Jews from Liberec.
