Krásný Dvůr Castle
Local name: Zámek Krásný Dvůr
Krasny Dvur Castle is a Baroque-Classicist residence surrounded by a romantic landscape park. The U-shaped palace is open towards the courtyard. 18 rooms with original furnishings from the 18th and 19th century have been made available to visitors. You can also visit the extensive park with a pond and many picturesque gazebos and historicizing buildings.
The present palace stands on the site of a 13th century castle. It was built in 1720-1724 for Jan Rudolf Černín. He was a patron of the arts and also a fan of gardening. At his command, on the area of 100 hectares, the first romantic English-style park was created here in the Czech Republic. Among the trees and shrubs planted to imitate natural copses, stylized ancient temples and gloriettes, neo-Gothic chapels and an artificial waterfall were created.
Currently, the castle can be visited. In addition to original furniture and handicrafts, there are paintings of 18th and 19th century painters, such as Piotr Brandl, Karel Škréta, Filip Kristian Benthum and Elizabeth Vige-Lebrun. You can also see a collection of works depicting portraits of dogs bred at the castle. The castle often organizes tours combined with historical stagings.
