Observatory and Planetarium

Local name: Hvězdárna a Planetárium

The observatory and planetarium in Hradec Kralove is one of the most modern in the Czech Republic. Established after World War II, at the beginning of the 21st century, a new teaching building was built, whose central part is a projection room equipped with the latest equipment. There are also exhibitions showing the macro and microcosm. The observatory also conducts astronomical workshops and sky observation demonstrations.

The observatory and planetarium belong to the Czech Academy of Sciences. It also houses the Institute of Hydrometeorology and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics. Currently, research works are underway in the old building. Visitors are allowed here only for scheduled observations of the sky. They are carried out both at night and during the day.

The new planetarium building was created with the aim of disseminating knowledge about space. The building has the shape of a space saucer. In its center there is a projection room that can accommodate over a hundred people. On its dome there are presentations about space. In addition, the building has two exhibitions "Microcosm - macro world" and on energy transformation. There are also physical shows and workshops for children and adults.
