Museum of East Bohemia
Local name: Muzeum východních Čech
The Museum of Eastern Bohemia is one of the largest regional museums in the country. It is located in a building recognized as a monument of history from 1909–1912, designed by the famous Czech architect Jan Kotera. The museum presents collections on archeology, history and nature of the region. There is also a modern exhibition dedicated to the Battle of Sadowa from 1866.
The museum was founded in 1880. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was moved to a new building. Currently, its collection includes over 3 million items related to the history of the heritage of East Bohemia. Thanks to the expansion at the beginning of the 21st century, the museum can also conduct multimedia presentations and workshops.
At exhibitions presented at the Museum, you can see items from archaeological excavations, including weapons, tools and jewelry, paintings and sculptures from this region, as well as numerous documents, everyday objects and souvenirs of residents. Three mock-ups showing changes in the buildings of the city of Hradec Kralove are also presented. Mock-ups show the city around 1420, in 1860 and at the turn of the century. Opened at the beginning of the 21st century, the multimedia exhibition introduces the course of the Austrian-Prussian War of 1866.
