Gallery of Modern Art

The Gallery of Contemporary Art in Hradec Kralove is one of the most important collections of new Czech art in the country. The permanent exhibition presents the 250 most valuable works from the entire collection. In addition, regular exhibitions from own collections and loans from other institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad are regularly held.

The Contemporary Art Gallery was founded in 1953. Its headquarters is the Art Nouveau building of the former credit society. The interior of the building has largely retained its original appearance. You can see floor mosaics and wallpapers that mimic the appearance of animal skins.

The gallery shows a review of Czech art from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 21st century. All significant artistic trends of the 20th century are represented here. Most space was devoted to innovative ideas from the interwar period and the work of Group 42. In 2015, the exhibition received a new character and was enriched with works of contemporary artists.
