Museum of Kykkos Monastery
Local name: Μουσείο Μονής Κύκκου
The Kykkos Monastery Museum is located within the monastery grounds, and its collection includes exhibits collected by the male Orthodox Order operating here from the very beginning of its activity. Greek and Byzantine objects are presented here, as well as numerous and extremely valuable monuments of sacred art representing early Christian and Orthodox art.
The permanent exhibition of the museum consists of liturgical vessels and clothing from different periods, antique frescoes and manuscripts. The most valuable exhibits in the collection include icons, including three icons, whose authorship is attributed to the apostle Łukasz. The most important of them is the icon depicting the Virgin Mary.
The museum is part of the monastery on the slope of the Kykkos mountain, which was founded at the turn of the 11th and 12th century. The permanent exhibition is located in the historic interiors of the monastery, which further enhances the visitors' experience.
