The monastery together with the church of St. Francis in Zadar was built in the thirteenth century, it is the oldest religious building representing the Gothic style in the region. The complex is famous for its library with an extensive collection of antique incunabula, parchments and seals.
A collection of valuable objects and works of art was collected in the room at the sacristy. It is located here, among others hand-painted crucifix from the 12th century and miniatures that were painted from the 13th to the 15th century. The main portal built in the late Baroque style dates from the second half of the 18th century.
Valuable monuments include the 17th-century high altar and stalls decorated with Gothic sculptures by Gaicomo da Borgo Sansepolcro. The facade of the church and monastery, like its interior is characterized by simplicity and modesty.
