Morske orgulje in Zadar, i.e. sea organs, is a unique architectural and musical project. The sounds they make are created by sea tides and waves. Resonators and plastic pipes are hidden under the stairs leading to the water. The architect Nikola Bašić was responsible for the design of the unusual instrument.
The former seaside promenade that the city's residents could stroll before World War II was completely destroyed. As part of removing post-war damage, an ordinary concrete wall was created in its place. The design of the new waterfront was to break the monotony and make this place attract tourists.
The maritime organs were put into public use in 2005, a year later they received the European Award for Municipal Public Space. Today it is one of the biggest attractions of the city.
