Vidikovac, or observation deck in the forest park Šuma Marjan, on the central hill Marjan (178 m above sea level). Considered the best viewpoint in Split. The park is a valued recreational area where you can easily get around on foot, but also by bike. It is a perfect place for walks and trips with young children, for whom special, rustic playgrounds have been prepared.
In the Roman period Marian was a resting place for guests of the nearby Diocletian's Palace (erected at the turn of the 3rd and 4th century AD). In the Middle Ages, the hill was barely stripped of its vegetation (timber was obtained for building houses here). The park's current appearance is due to the revaluation work that began in the 19th century and then continued in the 1950s.
In addition to natural values, Marjan has many monuments - temples and small houses built of local stone. One of the best preserved is the Romanesque-Gothic church of St. Nicholas from the beginning. 13th century
