Local name: Galerija umjetnina

The Galerija umjetnina, or Gallery of Fine Arts, was opened in 1931. Currently its collection includes paintings from the fourteenth century to the present day. From the total number of over 5,000 paintings and drawings at the permanent exhibition we can see several hundred most valuable, documenting the development of artistic activity since the time of the Republic of Venice, through the reign of Austria-Hungary, the rule of Tito and a brief history of modern Croatia.

The exhibition, located on two floors of the building, covers over 2,000 m2. The most valuable works were collected in the collection of old masters (XIV-XVIII centuries), which is decorated with: "Melancholy" by Albrecht Dürer, dated 1514, and the allegory of the four seasons - the work of the Czech baroque master Peter Brandel.

The gallery also has one of the most valuable icon collections in Croatia, dating from the 15th-19th centuries. It includes, among others works from the famous school Dimitrijeviciów-Rafailoviciów from the Bay of Kotor region, icons from Russia and Greece.
