Cetina Canyon
Local name: Kanjon Cetine
Kanjon Cetine Podašpilje is the most picturesque section of the Cetina River, located about 5 km from its mouth in the town of Omiš. The water has carved a deep canyon in the Mosor rock massive surrounded by steep walls. You can reach the canyon by a road running along the river, or even the river itself, by renting a motor boat.
The Cetina River, originating in the Dinaric Mountains at an altitude of 385 m above sea level, is 105 km long. It is very winding, creates numerous gorges and larger waterfalls - ideal for rafting. The area around the river is also valued by rock climbing and cross-country cycling enthusiasts.
The largest waterfall in the canyon is Velika Gubavica, whose water rolls down from a height of about 50 m, which makes it one of the largest in Croatia. Along the way, we can come across local delicacies, including as unusual as roasted frogs. Catering points operate, among others in abandoned water mills, erected in large numbers near Cetina in the past.
