Watermill Kotli is a water mill in the abandoned village of Kotli, located in the mountains of the Istrian peninsula. In the past, Kotli was the center of the Hum region, which in the nineteenth century was known for its great tailors and numerous mills. The area began to empty in the second half. 20th century, when flour production ceased. The abandoned village and decaying mills have retained their original shape to this day, becoming a tourist attraction.
The water mill in Kotla ceased to operate in 1964. The stone building retained rotting paddle wheels and wooden gutters, through which water was supplied to rotate them. Abandoned houses have also survived - wooden and hewn stone structures characteristic of this part of Croatia. The name of the village of Kotli comes from the troughs, called boilers, formed in the limestone rock by cascades falling from high water.
The village of Kotli is located near the route leading from Roč to Hum - probably the smallest city in the world with only a few inhabitants.
