The Benedictine monastery on the island of Lokrum was built together with the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the 12th century. The Romanesque building was rebuilt in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. In Napoleonic times, the monks left the island. From 1960, the monastery housed a hotel. Currently, the building is again church property.
