Žumberak - Samoborsko Gorje is a Nature Park created in 1999, covering about 350 km2. These mountains are a transitional area between the Alps and the Dynars. Typical alpine features include steep slopes, sharp peaks and deep valleys, and dinar features include numerous clefts and caves. Samoborskie Mountains are built mainly of Thracian and Cretaceous limestone.
This region also has incredible ethnographic wealth. You can find wooden huts full of old tools, folk costumes and old documents, as well as the remains of medieval cities, numerous archaeological finds from various periods, temples. It is worth visiting even Okić, considered the oldest noble fortress of northwestern Croatia.
Samoborskie Mountains are a perfect place for one-day recreational trips. Their highest peak is Japetić, measuring 879 m above sea level. Reaching the summit is not difficult, it takes only two hours from the Šoić hostel (Šoićeva kuća).
