The name of the square comes from the cathedral of St. Lambert's - its crypt and foundations can be seen in the underground Archeoforum. The most interesting preserved building is the bishops' palace, currently the Palace of Justice (court seat). On December 13, 2011, a suicide bombing took place on the square - six people were killed, 125 were wounded.
