Church of St. Servatius

Local name: Église Saint Servais

The history of the church dates back to the first half of the 10th century. The current Gothic-Renaissance building dates from the 13th century. The temple was severely damaged during a fire in 1981. Its walls and facade were reconstructed, but the historic baroque interior was not burned - among others decorative 18th-century stuccos and wooden furniture.

Traces of damage can still be seen on the preserved 13th-century columns. After the fire, the church was equipped with furniture transferred from other nearby temples. On the site of the old damaged stained glass, nowadays there are renovated stained glass windows or ordinary, transparent glass.

Since its construction, the church has been destroyed several times over the centuries. He suffered among others during the hurricane in 1491, when the entire spire of the tower collapsed on the temple's vault, and in the mid-nineteenth century as a result of blowing up nearby area with explosives during the construction of the railway line.
