The museum is a private house formerly owned by the banker and collector David Van Buuren and his wife Alice. It has an extensive collection of works of art, including Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Hercules Seghers, Vincent van Gogh and Henri Fantin-Latour. There is also a collection of 32 Van de Woestijne paintings.
The house has been decorated in an Art Deco style. The living room has an extensive collection of modernist rugs designed by Dutch designer Jaap Gidding. There is also a piano made of rosewood here. In the entrance hall you can see a massive Art Deco chandelier weighing nearly 500 kg.
The house is surrounded by a large garden, divided into three themed parts. The first is the geometric "Picturesque garden" designed by landscape architect Jules Buyssens. The second part is a labyrinth decorated with sculptures, and the third is in the romantic style.
