The museum is dedicated to Jewish history, religion and culture. Its collections include an extensive collection of exhibits, the oldest of which come from the 18th century. Around 750 ritual objects and artifacts, 1250 works of art, over 20,000 photographs and 5,000 posters and graphics were collected here.
Next to the museum there are 6 thematic libraries in which over 25,000 books are stored. Some also written in Hebrew and Yiddish. A collection of CDs and CDs is also collected here. The museum regularly hosts concerts, conferences, workshops and literary evenings.
The history of the museum dates back to 1979 when, as part of the 150th anniversary of Belgium's independence, the first exhibition of the art and history of Jews in Belgium was organized. The museum itself was officially opened in 1990, and was moved to its current headquarters in 2005.
