The museum is dedicated to the history and processing of diamonds. A permanent, semi-interactive exhibition traces Bruges's role as a center for the diamond trade back in the Middle Ages. There is also a collection of unique jewelry. During the tour, you can also watch the process of grinding and processing diamonds.
In addition to the traditional sightseeing, you can visit an interactive laboratory, where you can test the hardness of diamonds yourself and view them under a microscope. Visitors are accompanied by a guide who tells in detail about the process of extracting these stones, their processing, features and further use.
The museum is located in a former diamond processing factory, founded in 1909 by Alfons Thys. It had over a dozen branches and employed a total of about 150 people. The last branch was closed in 1970.
