The Dominican Church is an early Baroque parish church and at the same time a smaller basilica in the historic center of Vienna. The main nave is 25 m long, 14 m wide and 22 m high. On its sides there are three side chapels, a transept, a choir and an apse. Above each chapel there is a gallery with a shallow balcony.
The facade was built in the Romanesque-Lombard style with dominant columns supporting the cornice. The architecture of the church refers to the early Baroque churches in Rome, which in turn are based on the facade of the Dominican church Santa Maria Novella in Florence.
This is the third temple built in the same place. The first church was built here in 1237. After a series of fires at the end of the 13th century, it was decided to build a new Gothic church in the years. It was seriously damaged during the siege of Vienna by the Turkish army in 1529, and then gradually fell into ruin. The current building dates from the first half of the 16th century.
