Dom Museum Wien is a museum of the Archdiocese of Vienna founded in 1933 next to the Archbishop's Palace. The museum halls present valuable exhibits of medieval sacred art in combination with key works of the Austrian avant-garde and contemporary art.
The permanent exhibition Dom House Wien presents art from over a thousand years. These exhibits come primarily from the collection of the Cathedral of St. Stephen and numerous churches of the archdiocese of Vienna and Lower Austria.
The museum collections include, among others: precious altars, gold and precious stones decorated with sacred objects such as chalices, paintings, manuscripts and decorative robes, items related to the Prince of Austria Rudolph IV, including his portrait, considered the oldest painting depicting the ruler in German-speaking countries, and the works of famous artists such as Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Chagall, Dix, Grosz, Boeckl, Kubin, Prachensky, Fröhner, Rainer, Gironcoli, Oberhuber.
