The church Błażeja is an unusual example of religious architecture in Salzburg because it represents the Gothic style and makes a very ascetic impression compared to other, mostly baroque churches of Salzburg. On the outside of its northern wall you can see a marble relief depicting Saint Sebastian. In the interior of the church you can see valuable medieval paintings.
The church Błażeja was built in the first half of the fourteenth century and happily avoided damage over the centuries, which also saved him from rebuilding, which were subjected to other Salzburg buildings. Thanks to this, it has kept its original Gothic appearance almost intact.
The initiator of the church construction was Archbishop Frederick III. He also created a hospital at the church. Therefore, the patron of the church was Saint Błażej, who is known, among others, as the patron of throat diseases.
