Venetian Tower

Local name: Kulla Veneciane

The Venetian Tower is a monument located near the entrance to the archaeological site in the Albanian city of Butrint in the National Park. The building was erected in the 15th century and is a remnant of the period of Venetian rule in Albania. The tower also called the tower of Ali Pasha from Tepelena has two floors and today serves as a museum at the site of excavations in Butrint.

The Venetian tower built on a rectangular plan allowed supervision of the nearby Vivari channel. Today it leads to the remains of the ancient city of Butrint. The massive square bunker was built to work with the Triangular Fortress, i.e. the Venetian Castle on the other side of the canal.

The recently restored Venetian tower invites tourists to explore the ancient city. In Butrint, tourists will find many ancient souvenirs, and a visit to this place is a real history lesson. The archaeological site represents the diversity of civilizations that have resided in the settlement for several eras.
