The lighthouse stands at the tip of the Kullen Peninsula in the Kullaberg Nature Reserve. It is one of the most powerful and brightest lighthouses in Scandinavia. Its light reaches 27 nautical miles. The building is 15 meters high and 78.5 meters above sea level, making it the highest lighthouse in the country.
The first lighthouse was built here in 1561 by order of the Danish king Frederick II. Over the years, it has been rebuilt and the lighting method has been changed. The present building was built of stone and brick in 1898. It was designed by the architect Magnus Dahlander.
