Nimis

Lokaler Name: Nimis

Nimis is an art installation that is an example of site-specific art, located in the Kullabergs nature reserve. The structure stands at the base of a cliff on the north coast. It consists of a dozen or so towers built of washed up wood, boards and branches. A steep path leads directly from the museum in Himmelstorp.

The author of Nimis is the Swedish artist Lars Vilks. The first part of the structure was built in the early 1980s. In the following years, it was gradually expanded until it reached almost 100 meters in length and 25 meters in height. In 2016, the installation was damaged by a fire, but was partially rebuilt.

Nimis was erected without the permission of the authorities, which found out about its existence only in 1982. A demolition order was then issued, but it was not carried out. Instead, she led to a lawsuit between Vilkis and the reserve management.
