Piaristenkirche
Lokaler Name: Biserica Piariștilor
The Piarist Church in Cluj-Napoca is the first Roman Catholic church built in Transylvania after the Protestant Reformation. It was also the first building in the region to be built in a baroque style, and thus served as inspiration and a model for many churches in Transylvania.
The facade is relatively simple. Above the main entrance there are three narrow windows and a bas-relief depicting the Holy Trinity. In contrast, the interior of the temple is very decorative and lavish. There is only one nave here, 45 m long and 24 m high. The main altar and the pulpit are richly decorated. On the walls you can see commemorative plaques with inscriptions in Romanian, Hungarian, German and Latin. On the sides there are three chapels, each with its own altar and several paintings. In the basement of the church there is a crypt with 140 graves.
