Römisch-katholische Kathedrale St. Michael

Lokaler Name: Catedrala Romano-Catolică Sfântul Mihail

The historic church is one of the most respected and representative examples of Gothic architecture in Transylvania. It is also the second largest church in Transylvania and one of the largest in the country. It is 70 m long, and its tower with the cross on it is 80 m high.

While visiting the temple, it is worth paying attention to the 18th-century altar and restored paintings from the 14th-15th centuries. The most valuable frescoes can be seen in the Schleunig chapel, located in the south-west corner of the building.

Above the main portal, there are three coats of arms belonging to the Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg, during whose reign the construction of the temple was completed. At the very top, there is an image of St. Michael, below the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire, and at the bottom the coats of arms of the Kingdom of Hungary and the Kingdom of Bohemia.
