ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is the UK's largest zoo and safari park. Nearly 4,000 animals live here, including representatives of endangered species. You can walk around the zoo, use the coach or drive your own car. This applies especially to the so-called an area of Asia, where some animals move freely outside the enclosures. There is also a narrow-gauge railway "Jumbo Express" in the park.
The zoo is divided into thirteen sections. Among them are, among others Butterfly House, Birds of the World, Asia Passage, and extensive enclosures for lions, wildebeest, elephants, rhinoceros and cheetahs. In a separate section there is a mini-zoo, mainly for children, where you can see farm animals.
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo opened in May 1931. It was the first zoo in Europe with easy access for visitors. The brown bear enclosure built at that time is one of the few remnants of the first years of the existence of the facility.
