Riverside Museum
The Riveside Museum houses the collections of the Transport Museum existing until 2011. The exhibits include, above all, a substantial collection of vehicles, from horse-drawn carriages to motorbikes and other two-wheelers, to cars. You can see here, among others the oldest working bike and one of the most important collections of Scottish vehicles. Other exhibitions include ship models and exhibits related to railways, including locomotives.
The Transport Museum in Glasgow was founded in 1964 and was originally located in an old tram depot. In the 1980s, they were moved to the spacious hall at Kelvin Hall, and since 2011 it has occupied the Riverside Museum building, designed by the architectural office of Zaha Hadid and engineers from Buro Happold.
In 2013, the museum won the title of the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award for the best museum in Europe. It has been awarded since 1977 and so far only six branches from Great Britain have won this title.
