Under the Dover Castle there are tunnels built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Initially, they served as artillery rooms. During World War II, they were used to evacuate soldiers retreating from Dunkirk. Currently, they are available as part of the tourist route, which is guided tours.
The exhibition located in the tunnels under the Dover Castle recalls the history of the operation, which saved over 300,000 British soldiers from Dunkirk. In the corridors, thanks to animations and multimedia presentations, scenes from the fighting in Dunkirk were recreated. Command and technical service rooms are also reconstructed here. Weapons, uniforms and equipment of soldiers are presented.
